Is it Impossible to Get Cheap Flights Now?

Fuel costs are going higher and higher. And many airlines are increasing their fuel surcharge in response. You may have noticed that your travel costs have gone up by up to 50%! Can you still get cheap airfares now? The airlines still do have cheap air tickets. Let us look at some of the ways you can get those cheap flights.

Search Online for Cheap Flights

Just Google it! There are lots of airfare aggregators and also discount flights search engines like Priceline. Check your airfare with as many of them as possible, they often provide different airfare prices. You may want to start your search with these websites:

For US domestic flights: Kayak, Farechase, Cheaptickets, Orbitz, Priceline and Travelocity.

For international flights: Other than the above, you should also try Mobissimo, Skyscanner and Zuji.

Also check if your travel destinations are served by low cost carriers or no frills airlines. If the above websites did not provide you airfares from these airlines, go to the airlines’ own websites and see their prices.

Once you find the cheap flight you want, check the airline’s own website and see if they offer the same flight at a cheaper price.

You can also experiment with flights on different timings or days. Different days of the week will have different prices, and so do different times.

Do your check for cheap airfares at different times of the day. This is because prices fluctuate throughout the day.

Check one-way flights too. Experiment with different airlines and you may find a combination that is cheaper than your two-way return flights.

If you’re flying on low cost carriers or budget airlines, you can usually get cheaper fares when you book really early. Or you can wait for their promotions. Just check back often on the airlines’ websites.

Check With Your Local Travel Agent

Sometimes travel agents will have access to special deals that are not available online. Check their air ticket prices against the cheapest airfares you have found online.

After you have done all your research and found the cheapest flights, book them and enjoy your travel!

Look at the sites like Travelocity and get an idea of prices and what airlines fly out of where you are. But don't get hung up on them

Often if you go to the actual airlines site you can do much better. Right now through mid Nov….. Virgin Atlantic $600 to $700 round trip (including taxes) from LA to london, Heathrow.

They all start going up as you near Christmas. After Christamas they gett cheap again (Jan. to about April) because it is not tourist season.

Play with your dates. One day either way departing and returning can mean half off. Days of the week…. a Tuesday is going to be cheaper than a Friday. Odd times of day when families, business traveler or people who have issues having someone pick them that nobody really wants are cheaper.

-sign up online with the various airlines that look best for the basic frequent flyer card. Once you are logged in some of the airlines sites offer deals Even without that the airlines websites offer deals.

-If you have credit sign up for their credit card. Most will give you a whole bunch of miles for signing and you can apply that to get a portion of your fare off

Generally the international carriers like Virgn, British Airways and such have better deals that the US domestic ones.

It's really easy to find your way around Heathrow. There are shuttle buses to each terminal and the airport is really well signed.

There are also a lot of information points and being an international hub most of the assistance given is in more than one language. Enjoy your trip.

I used my AA miles to fly to Mexico on Wednesday . Hawaii is absolutely ridiculous at the moment . I don't think you will have any luck with the Aloha state because of the current situation . I would try alternatives such as the Dominican Republic , U.S. Virgin Islands or Antigua unless you are willing to pay $1,000 per ticket.

    Ok, the lady above me might of fixed your commas, but your wording is odd;

    Hi ——-,
Can you please send me the PowerPoint?

Although I hate to do this, I have a question. Would it be alright to take both my final exams on Friday, Dec. 7th? This would allow me to fly home Monday, Dec. 10th as I was invited to share my testimony in Arizona on Tuesday, Dec. 11. I have already found an inexpensive airline ticket for Monday's flight. Please let me know if this is possible.
    Thank you,

There should be on the site that you are booking on a Military discount of some kind. If there is not try a different site such as Travelocity or Hotwire. Another thing is that yeah the military should be paying for those flights.

I have no idea. I have found that flight prices change depending on the day you leave and return.

I could venture a guess. I would guess that the reason is the chance of a guarantee of the price of fuel. I'm only guessing, but I'd say that the airlines have a rough but relatively accurate estimate of what the price of fuel will be, and how much it will cost to fly with a full cabin to Sweden and back. So they probably base their round trip airline ticket price on this estimate.
However, I'd also guess that 30 days is the cut off mark where they draw the line and say that the price estimate is not accurate enough to hope to gain a profit from the tickets purchased today. So because they've determined that they are not as accurate in their estimate of fuel cost after 30 days, they hike up the price, one, to discourage people from buying round trip tickets more then 30 days apart, and two, to better guarantee themselves the profit on the cost of fuel.

I guess this because could you imagine several thousands of people buying round trip tickets for regular price, and then the airline only receives a profit for half it's flights for those thousands of people because by the time they returned fuel cost had risen over the profit margin for the ticket they bought. Of course that doesn't explain why airlines are cheaper when you buy months in advance.

    I don't know if I'm right, but it's a guess nonetheless.

If you have flexible departure dates, there's flights for $280.90 rt including tax departing on the 17th and returning the 30th. Otherwise you may want to wait and see if the prices will come down slightly as the departure date nears.
