Travel Jobs & How to Make Money While You Travel

Travel Jobs & How to Make Money While You Travel

Ever had the desire to quit your lame 9 to 5 job, tell your boss to shove it, pack up and start traveling the world?

All of us have had that desire at one point! The thing that stopped you was probably the same thing that stops most people: money.

“How will I pay for my flights, food, lodging, transportation, yada, yada, yada,” you asked yourself.

Don’t let these concerns bother you too much, because there is an underground, growing group of travelers who are utilizing some simple but hidden techniques to make significant incomes while traveling.

Here’s an overview of how we make money traveling and by landing travel jobs:

Underground Travel Income Method #1 – Traditional Travel Job - Hold a job that either a) pays for us to travel or b) is located in the place we wish to travel to. This is the lowest paying and most complicated method of all, but is the most commonplace.

Common jobs that pay for travels are for professional speakers, salespeople, package couriers, flight attendants, travel nurses/doctors, conservationists, cruise ship workers, etc.

Travel jobs located in the places we wish to go to can be any of the above, but also are specific to the location we travel to. There are some FUN jobs overseas that are looking for foreign workers!

Underground Travel Income Method #2 – Travel Writing –
Travel writing jobs for magazines are more common than you may imagine. However, there are LOADS of other ways to write as you travel and make money, including blogging, picking up projects from sites like Elance and Guru, and writing travel guides, both online and offline.

Underground Travel Income Method #3 – Selling Affiliate Products –
Using a simple website, you can drive online traffic to a product that will be of interest to your online followers. Don’t be intimidated by this! It can be as easy as using your very own Facebook or Myspace profile. Affiliate products typically pay 50% to 75%, so you can make a very healthy income for selling just a few objects.

Underground Travel Income Method #4 – Filming Your Adventures – If you’ve got the camera out and you’re taking pictures, why not switch it to ‘film’ mode and make money from it? You simply make a video of your destinations using iMovie or Windows Movie Maker, then use your videos to create a customer base!

Underground Travel Income Method #5 – Podcasting – If filming scares you off or intimidates you, you can make an iTunes podcast. It is easier than ever to get listed in iTunes and there’s a HUGE audience of podcast listeners. Simply talk about the places you visit two or three times a week and watch how your following grows… and how your bank account grows!

Underground Travel Income Method # 6 – Ebay – The common misconception about Ebay is that you have to sell a physical product to make money. Here’s the trick: You can set up a fulfillment house to ship your product (or hire your little sister or the neighborhood kid). All you have to do is create your Ebay post from an internet café and collect the money!

Take any one of these six ‘travel job’ methods, and there are hundreds of travelers all over the world making more money than they would at a regular ‘job…’ and they’re living it up at exotic, world-class destinations. Take your pick, and take action on the ideas here!

Help answer the question about travel

How could traveling the speed of light lead us to time travel?
In a question, someone answered that if we were able to travel the speed of light, then we could somehow achieve time travel. How would this happen?

Also, how could we make time travel possible? Is there some formula to it? I think time travel is a really awesome concept, and I want to learn more about it.

You could apply for a magazine article writer. If you try to apply for Conde Nast Traveler, they have many articles written by hand-on experiences. Good Luck!

LOL, those jobs are very few and far between- I mean, who wouldnt want to get paid to be on vacation year round, right? You've got about as good a shot of getting one of those jobs as you do hitting the lottery. Instead, you would likely have to get a real job, where you travel somewhere and then dont see anything other than the inside of the office you are working in, the local resteraunts, and your hotel room. If you really want to do that, then a lot of Sales jobs, and a lot of management, IT, and consulting jobs require travel. Travel jobs are not real hard to find, if you have the education.

Any job that has a sea going billet. Last I heard, the only one I can think of that is NOT a sea going billet is an Oceanographic Technician (OT). I may be wrong.
I was a storekeeper (now called LOGISTICS SPECIALIST) and I was on 5 ships, stationed in 3 countries and visited over 30 (some more than once). I even spent 13 months in Antarctica (at my request). I've been on 6 of the 7 continents, and sailed 8 seas/oceans.
Pick a rating that will translate to a CIVLIAN job. Friend of mine retired as an E-8 Quartermaster (navigator). Not much call for navigators on shore…he drives long haul truck.

You basically want a job with an international company, and your job should be something that interacts with customers but not just individuals. You want a job where you interact with department heads, managers, people with purchasing power, or highly skilled professionals such as attorneys, IT/technical staff, budget analysts, public relations folks, etc. I'm not sure what your degree is in but you are (I hope!!!) and can see if you can market that skill to a global company. I'm a software engineer and I travel all the time, mostly domestic but do get out of the country on occasion. Keep in mind, it will probably be a while before you're allowed to go on travel regularly; the company has to build up their trust in you before they turn you loose on foreign soil with the corporate card!

Just about every travel company out there is listed on the DocketDirectories . com
From auto rentals to hotels and air fare….no need to shop around when it is all under one roof.

I took travel and tourism for my hospitality degree. It's not just travel agent, since those have sort of gone by the wayside with places like hotwire.com. You could be a concierge at a fancy hotel. You could work for a limousine company in tourist areas. You could even work with the city on tourism development to bring more tax money in. Take a lot of economics to go with it. Once you get a city job you're set for life.

I don't know about Ohio, but Maryland still uses plenty of travelers. If you're interested in coming to Maryland, you could ask your rep about an assignment at Johns Hopkins Hospital (the adult RT side uses travelers), or University of Maryland Medical Center, which I believe will use travelers with peds or adult experience. Those are the only two places I've worked since I moved back to MD, but I bet other hospitals in Baltimore and DC have similar opportunities. Also, if you get the AARC Times magazine, sometimes there are opportunities listed for travelers in the back section where the job ads are. Good luck!
