A few years back my brother and his partner moved out to New Zealand. It was a big shock to everyone when they decided to head out there, and not what anybody was expecting. My brother Gary had always been the home body, whereas I had always been the one to be heading off around the world all of the time. Maybe I managed to get all of my travelling out of my system, and he just felt that he hadn’t done enough. Whatever the reasons, my brother was now on the other side of the world. This meant two things. On the one hand it meant that I would be sad to miss my brother who I really got on with, but on the other hand, it meant I had somewhere to stay in New Zealand!
It’s been a few years since he has been gone and he hasn’t been able to afford to come back and see anyone yet, which is a shame, and I thought this year that I had better just bite the bullet and go out there to visit him. I found some flights to Auckland online and booked a trip out there for two weeks. I managed to get the time off work, and it was great to think that I was off on my travels again, albeit only for two weeks.
When I got there I could see exactly why he had gone out there in the first place. It really was a wonderfully friendly place and the scenery there was amazing. When I saw my brother he looked like a different person, and I realised then that this had done him the world of good. It was great to see my brother looking so happy.
